Jamaica's influence on music has influenced the world and has manifested in countless different ways. Most people are familiar with Jamaica's reggae, as well as other musical styles imparted by Jamaica that include mento, ska, rocksteady, and dancehall. It is easy to become mesmerized as you immerse yourself in the thumping of the deep bass drums on a sweet reggae beat.

The classic image that comes to mind when you think of Caribbean music is Bob Marley holding his guitar or Peter Tosh wearing a beret. While Jamaica and the legends of reggae have made their lasting mark on world music, there is also a rich musical history that coincides with culture across the Caribbean islands.

Reggae was developed in Jamaica in the late 1960s, and has since become incredibly popular worldwide. While it is a genre that is sometimes used to refer to most Jamaican music, it’s more specifically about a style that uniquely combines Jamaican folk music, American jazz, R&B and the catchy, familiar guitar upstrokes of the ska and rocksteady genres. Reggae music is important because of its understanding of Jamaican lifestyle and it’s unique culture. Reggae traditionally has become a way to creatively celebrate the country’s nationalism.

Reggae became popular around the world, due in large part to the international success of artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Marley’s lyrics about love, redemption and natural beauty captivated audiences all over the world. The power of reggae, built on a foundation of history with the spirit of the Jamaican people and messages of a better future, became a notion that is universally appreciated. Jamaican music's popularity has spread throughout the world, and is deeply entrenched in the musical culture of the world.

The games played by children in Jamaica is a mix of some good old-fashioned games with some unique innovations that make them Jamaican. The names of some may be different but they are similar to games played around the world. Try playing these new and fun games that kidz in Jamaica enjoy!

Dandy Shandy is a ball game consisting of 3 players. This game must be played outdoors in a wide open area, preferably on a grass field. There are 2 pitchers, each standing on either end and the 3rd player is standing in the middle. A ball is used for throwing at the player standing in the middle. The “ball” is usually a stuffed 1-pint juice box, stuffed fully with newspaper and the four corners are rounded off.

Handball is a game that is similar to US baseball but hands are used in place of a bat. The game is played with any number of players and one pitcher. The ball is usually a newspaper stuffed 1-pint juice rounded off at the four corners. The bases are any
immovable object, such as trees, buildings, a rock on the ground or just a visibly marked
spot on the ground. Handball is a team game as the batters are all on one team and the
pitcher and his infielders are the other team.

Bull Inna Pen is a rough but super exciting game, much loved by every child in Jamaica. This game is based around a story of a mother hen and her chicken, a bull in the pen and a hawk. The mother hen is protecting her chicks who are tightly lined up behind her, each little chick clutching tightly onto each other and in step with every move that mother hen does. The Bull is standing a couple feet in front of mother hen making noise, and trying everything to reach behind Mother Hen to grab one of her precious chicks.

Australia is an island continent in the Southern hemisphere with rich history, beautiful landscape, and diverse culture. The customs and practices from this amazing and varied population have allowed for an assortment of games and pastimes for kids. Kids all over the world have experiences and cultures that vary, but a common denominator is that children everywhere love to play and entertain themselves. Some games are comparable, while others are unique to particular cultures. Introduce your children to time of play while they learn about some fun activities that kidz in Australia enjoy!

Bounce Eye involves marbles and at least three players! After a 12-inch circle is drawn, each player deposits two of his three marbles in the center. Each player takes a turn dropping his remaining marble over another player's marble, trying to knock it out of the circle. When a marble is displaced, it becomes the property of the individual responsible. Turns are taken until all the marbles are outside the circle. The player who accumulates the most marbles is the winner.

Make memories as you teach your kids about Egg and Spoon Races! This very popular among kidz in Australia is an undervalued game. Providing wonderful entertainment, this game is closely observed to decide a winner. Race each other with an egg balanced on a teeny tiny spoon to find out the winner.

A fun and sweet activity in Australia your child is sure to love involves biting the Arnotts Biscuit into Aussie Shape. This is a fun one for the little kids to nibble their way through an Arnotts milk arrowroot biscuit until they think it resembles the Australian flag. The closest one wins!

Australians love nothing more than outdoor family fun. Backyard cricket brings together young and old under the sun while having fun. It can be played just about anywhere, you just need a bat and a ball. But don’t forget the wickets! This is where you can get creative. A wicket can really be anything at hand, from a chair to a trash can. Backyard cricket is one of the great Aussie sports.

Down Down Down involves the tossing of a tennis ball between two players. Players begin tossing the ball back and forth from a standing position. If a player drops the ball, they must go to one knee. If he drops it again he goes to both knees, then to an elbow, to two elbows, and eventually ends up on his chin.

Australia is an island continent in the Southern hemisphere with rich history, beautiful landscape, and diverse culture. December is the first month of Summer in Australia, which means Christmas is HOT! In December, Australia experiences some of its hottest temperatures ranging from the mid-20s Degrees Celsius (70 Fahrenheit) to above 30 Degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit). The climate means people spend their Christmas mornings down at the beach in some places, and in other areas, families stay inside with their air-conditioning on.

Store-bought kinetic sand or moon sand works perfectly. You can also make homemade sand using flour and baby oil. Use 1/4 cup baby oil for every 2 cups of flour. To fill our plastic container, we did 8 cups of flour and 1 cup of baby oil. You want to mix it well to break up any balls of baby oil that form. Store it in an airtight container when not in use. It looks like snow!

Christmas in Sweden begins on December 13 with Saint Lucia Day, a day to honor Lucia, the patron saint of light said to be a bearer of light during the long Swedish winters. According to
